Assessment of Brightness

The author presents a description of work which might lead to something new in the future. The subject is the Assessment of Brightness - the problem of the judgment of magnitude of brightness as we see it. This papers aims to show that a useful engineering scale of apparent brightness can be derived by various methods, including direct estimation. The effects of adaptation can be allowed for. Much more work is necessary before a final scale can be put forward.
