Effects of Healthcare Environmental Design on Medical Outcomes

Jul 01, 2000

This paper focuses on environmental design research. It reviews the scientific research linking healthcare environmental characteristics to improved health outcomes. To suggest promising design approaches in situations when gaps exist in research knowledge, the discussion outlines a Theory of Supportive Healthcare Design. It also summarizes advantages and cost factors of evidence-based supportive design.
