The New Green Field Hospital in Ontario

Jul 01, 2005

By using Canada’s Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – a 375-bed, 680,000 square foot hospital – as a case study, this paper covers the project objectives, summarizes the philosophical and methodological drivers for design, explores methods for the delivery of green field hospitals in the Canadian context, and illustrates how design and material selection and intentional site planning can increase patient well-being, reduce patient and user stress, and allow a facility to remain fiscally and operationally responsible.
