Slum Fictions: De-delimiting Place in Nairobi

The condition of the slum is arguably more closely linked to notions of non-place as a vessel for social mobility, yet it is most often identified and discussed as a physical ‘place’ with definitive geographical boundaries and hard urban edges. This essay examines the use of ‘place’ in the context of the rapidly urbanizing world, and particularly in Nairobi.
