This year’s theme, IMAGINE+, is a manifestation of our capacity to innovate, collaborate, and apply our imaginations. When we do this in the context of specific goals and dreams, we can drive real change. We have endless potential to reshape, redefine, redesign, and renew. Everything.
As planners and problem solvers, we seek out time to think of the future, of what could be, of what hasn’t been built. We create space in our day and in our minds to pursue these thoughts. We close our eyes in the back of a cab, sketch silently during a call, glance away during a conversation.
These quiet moments offer a new perspective on what’s right in front of us, giving us a blank canvas, but we require more than just a quiet space to think. We need the permission to create.
We need also a connection with others to collaborate and think not only “outside the box” but also outside the building. AIA Convention 2016 offers us that opportunity.
