Optimizing Early Design Process Decision Making Through Effective Problem Framing

This paper relates core aspects of design thinking to opportunities available to optimize sustainable design earlier than later in the design process. It traces an experiment in introducing analytical tools to an undergraduate design studio which demonstrates that objective feedback can co-exist with creative action and points to the power of design at the schematic level when significant opportunities are cemented.
