State of the Art in Evaluation Durability of Exterior Plasters

Apr 13, 2015

This presentation begins with an introduction to the durability of exterior plasters, specifically, the role exterior plaster plays in the composition of an exterior wall and the modes of plaster degradation in different climates. It explains the factors that influence the durability of plasters, notably inner and outer moisture, hygrothermal properties, thermal expansion, moisture-induced expansion, and chemical composition. It concludes with recommendations for testing methods and standards, including tests for freeze/thaw cycling, mechanical strength, shrinkage and thermal dialation, salt crystallization, and calcium leaching.
